HPI GAP insurance FAQs
A1 Warranty Services Ltd administer the products and services on behalf AXA Insurance UK plc.
GAP insurance bridges the financial GAP between the total loss payment that you receive from your motor insurers (market value at time of incident) and the amount you originally paid for the vehicle (Return to Invoice) or the value of your vehicle on the date of purchase of the policy (Agreed Valuation) up to the maximum shown on your policy schedule.
Yes, as long as your car is less than 8 years old, covered less than 80,000 miles and has a value of more than £4,000 or your Motorcycle is less than 8 years old, covered less than 40,000 miles and has a value of more than £500 then we can arrange GAP Insurance for you.
If you sell your vehicle the policy cannot be transferred so will become void. However if you have purchased an AXA Return to Invoice GAP 36 month single premium policy we may, at our discretion, agree to transfer the cover to a different vehicle of the same value, make and model for the remainder of the insurance period, providing the vehicle is sold by you within 2 calendar years of the start date of the policy.
Simply cancel the policy by email along with your direct debit instruction, and then simply buy a replacement policy from the source you originally purchased from for the replacement vehicle.
We recognise that some customers do not want to pay a one off premium for the cover so we let you choose your method of payment. This can be single premium or monthly payment via direct debit.
If you wish to cancel your policy within the first 14 days please advise the administrator by email at info@A1warrantyservices.co.uk or in writing quoting your policy number. If you cancel within 14 days of taking out a policy we will refund any premiums paid, provided no total loss claim has been made.
We would provide you with AXA Agreed Valuation GAP. The valuation of the vehicle is set at the date of purchase of the policy as shown in Glasses Guide. The valuation selected is the retail price a buyer would expect to pay at a dealership for that particular make and model of vehicle.
The insurer would pay back to the retail valuation agreed at policy inception up to the maximum claims limit available for the vehicle involved. (See question: What are the claims limits?)
The policy covers overseas use for a maximum of 60 days continual use during the period of insurance.
You have a choice: With the single premium option you can select either 12, 24 or 36 month cover options and with the monthly premium options you are on cover for 1 month at a time up to a maximum period of cover of 12, 24 or 36 months. However there is only 12 months cover available for Motorcycles for both single and monthly premium options.
Cars and Light Commercial Vehicles have a claim limit of £10,000. Motor bikes have a claims limit of between £5,000 and £10,000 depending on the value of the motorcycle purchased. Scooters have a claims limit of £2,500.
If you purchase a Return to Invoice policy you should keep the original motor dealer invoice. This will be required in the event of a claim. You should also have fully comprehensive motor insurance on the vehicle and you must be named on the policy.
If you purchase an Agreed Valuation policy we do not require a selling dealer invoice as we would have established the vehicle value using Glasses Guide at policy inception, however, you should still have fully comprehensive motor insurance on the vehicle and you must be named on the policy.

The policy is available for cars and light commercials up to 3500kg which are less than 8 years old and have covered no more than 80,000 miles at policy inception.
The vehicle must be serviced in accordance with the manufacturers’ specification during the period of insurance. (Proof may be requested in the event of a claim). It is also the policyholders’ responsibility to carry out regular fluid checks between services.

No, as with most vehicle related insurances, the policy does not cover normal serviceable items such as batteries, wiper blades, fluids and grease etc.
You can only make one claim during the period of insurance – or one claim per annum on a multiple year policy
Yes you may do this, the test centre must be department of transport approved but it is your choice where you have any remedial work carried out. (The terms and conditions state that this must be a VAT registered garage or repairer.)
You do this in the full knowledge that the insurer reserves the right not to meet your claim under the terms of the policy. You will then have to pay the bill and submit the claim retrospectively.
You may cancel the policy at any time. You will not receive a refund for the policy if this occurs more than 14 days after policy inception, or, if there is a pending claim on the policy.
